Do you like living in your country? Why or why not?

I like living in Singapore as I have spent most of my life here. I grew up here and hence, I have much more friends here than in Philippines, though all my relatives are there. Singapore is also a very safe country, compared to other countries and natural disasters do not occur here. The government also encourages the people living here to keep the country clean and green by asking the people to apply the 3R's in their daily lives (reduce, reuse, recycle) and etc. Singapore also has strict security and thus, there are not much crimes and the government also helps the citizens in need. Singaporeans are also really helpful, in terms of helping other countries, charities and so on.

I love living in Singapore it is my place of birth and my homeland. Although I like living in Singapore, I do not like some of the citizens and PRs here as they are sometimes rude or bossy.
There are a few reasons why I like living in Singapore. The first is we are living near the equator so we do not experience the four seasons. The second is there are no major natural disasters even though there are sightings of water spouts near Sentosa and Marina Bay. The third and foremost is that I grew up here and all my friends live here although there are a few from overseas and those who have migrated.
Singapore now encourages us to be environmentally-friendly which I support and that is one of the reasons I love living Singapore. Singapore's government also cares about the citizens in need and tries to help them with their problems.
These are few of the reasons why I like living in Singapore.

Do you like living in your country? Why or why not?

Although I feel that Singapore is a safe country , I still think that there are many other countries that are better than Singapore , like , Japan , Korea , Australia , etc. These countries have many facinating histories , games , animals and many other things . Another reason why I feel that Singapore isn't the country that i like to live in is mainly because , Singapore has many bugs and irritating spiders . Also , in some parts of Singapore , the air is not as fresh as other countries . I think that almost every part of Singapore is a human environment (based on the geography lessons), and thus there are lesser trees when compared with other countries . Lastly , Singapore does not have the four seasons but most countries do .

Senario 3 (Anger)

'Ahhh!' I screamed in torror as I saw my brand new Nike bag had pen marks all over. Even worse, there was cracked eggs and my books were ruined and my favourite pencil case was found in the dustbin, cut into shreds. 'WHO DID THIS? YOU DID BETTER OWN UP OR ELSE I WILL TELL THE TEACHER!' I cried. But nobody seemed to hear my words. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I could not stand it any longer and stormed out of the room, making my way to the teachers' staff room.

Do you like living in your country? Why or why not?

I like living in Singapore because i feel that Singapore is a very safe country unlike the other countries.Singapore does not have natural disasters such as typoons, earthquake, terrorism etc.Singapore is also go green and clean country .Singapore is a go green country because some supermarkets do not use plastic bags. Senario 1(Fear)

I took a deep breath to steady my racing heart, but it was no use. My legs were trembling like a jelly. 'Oh no! What should I do?' I thought. Fear stricken as I saw the man's thin lips curled into a sneer and pull out a sharp knife in front of me and said,'Give me all your money or you will die!' 'But...but...' I stuttered fearfully. I don't have any money.' 'Oh really?' the man panicked but regain his conscious in no time. 'Then i have no choice but to kill you...'

Do you like living in your country? Why or why not?

I like living in Singapore because I feel that Singapore is quite safe compared to the other countries.
And, Singapore is also spared from natural disasters like Earthquakes, Tsunami, Volcano, Tornado etc. Singapore is also clean and a green environment for us to live in. All the people are encouraged to recycle, reuse , and reduce in order to save the Earth. Singapore is really a good place to live in. When someone breaks the rules, the person would get what they deserved. Singapore's governments are not corrupt therefore, no matter how people try to bribe them, they would not let the people off. Singaporeans are also very kind. For example, people would actually donate money to the charity as the money are actually for the needy who don't have enough money for their illness. Or donate food to those who are poor and can't find a job to support themselves. Many schools in Singapore have students who are also having fundraising to help those in need.

English Dicussion Question

I like Singapore because this is where I born and where I live. Singaporeans live together in harmony. Unlike some other countries, Singapore have save environments and there is no natural disasters. Singaporeans are polite, kind and helpful. The Esplanade, The Merlion, The Singapore Flyer make me feel proud to live in Singapore. Singapore is also environmentally friendly to help save the Earth by telling Singaporeans to reuse plastic bags, use recycling shopping bags instead of plastic bags, and more. In school we were also taught how to save the Earth. Singapore also have a fair goverment and they help Singaporeans when they are in need.

Do you like living in your country? Why or why not?

Personally, I sometimes dislike living in Singapore and other times like living in Singapore. I dislike living in Singapore as sometimes, the government seems to make some wrong decisions, for example, if the government already does not want people to gamble due to that gambling breaks families and many other stuff, then why did they allow a casino in Singapore? The prices of stuff are getting costly each year, it is also getting too crowded due to the permaneant residents and maybe giving birth to too many babies. I like living in Singapore as Singapore is always 'upgrading' every year. Different, special and new buildings, events would always seem to pop up during the next year or so. Singapore is also very clean (except in some places) and people are really kind due to all the charities, fundraisers and C.I.P projects and how schools are encouraging students to help out more. It is very safe and even when NS men had finished their NS training for 2 years, they are still commanded to go back to train or 'revise' what they learnt. Singapore is also save from natural disasters.

I like singapore as it is my birthplace which contains many memories in it. I think Singapore is known as the green city in other countries. One point that I like Singapore is that when I walk around, most likely I will see trees and not rubbish strewn on the ground. Singaporeans are encouraged to carry out the three 'R's . I think Singaporeans can be considered kind and generous as if there is a charity show, they will try their best in helping them. Singapore is a safe place as there is no terrorism happening. Although Singapore is small country, many foriegner are attracted to tour around or stay at here. Compared to some other countries ,Singapore has street lights or trees neatly in row . When you are leaving the Changi Airport, you will see the road is flank by rows of beautiful trees which give you a pleasant feeling of a home .

I like living in Singapore as this is my home country. Singapore's security is one of the best in the world. As Singaporeans do their part to keep the environment clean, it is no wonder people from other countries called us the green city. There are also no riots or corruptions happening in our country. Singapore's location has also made us the best place to live in, as we are in the middle of the Earth, near the equator, so there are no disasters happening here. Like the recent earthquake that happened in Haiti. How Singaporeans have all lend a helping hand in donating charitably. We also have a fair government that keeps order in our country. But our country still have space for improvement to make it a better life for you and me.
Living simply means that i have my family and my friends with me, to support me, and that i have memories of all the happy times we had spent together. So that explains why i like Singapore.

Singapore is clean compared to some other countries, and the crime rates are relatively low.Plus, our country is protected against natural disasters (due to some geological reason), so it is one of the safest countries in the world. Also, Singapore is richer than some countries, and its education system is quite good. And Singapore is very charitable, aiding whichever country is in need, the most recent example being the Haitian Earthquake at Port-au-Prince. However, one of our rules fall in the Book Of Weird Rules (literally), and that is 'No Gum Allowed'. That's one thing I don't like about Singapore. But other than that, yes, I like living in Singapore.

Discussion (do you like living in singapore?....)

Sometimes i like but other times i may not like living in Singapore. I like living in Singapore because although we are just a small country, but that is also an advantage as we will not get hit by the natural disasters. Also, Singapore does not have any riots like other countries as we have racial cohesion. What i don't like living in Singapore is that although there are lots of 'NO LITTER' sign, people still continue to litter, ignoring the sign, encouraging pollution in Singapore. Recycling, reducing and reusing are now common as we want to save the earth. But,inconsiderate people always throw the things not in the respective places purposely. 'e.g, throwing paper into the cans dustbin.' Keeping the toilets clean is also not becoming a habit of most people. They sprinkle water on the floor, making it wet, throw litters on the floor, and not flushing the toilet bowls. All these are the inconsiderate acts that Singapore presents which leaves a bad impression on our country.

Scenario 1

"Boom!", the deafening sound of the thunder threatened me to duck into the shelter. Drenched,i made my way to the lift, not knowing that a pair of eyes followed me into the lift. When the lift was about to close, out of the blue,a man with dishevelled black jet hair and unshaved beard dashed in with a sinister smile. I forced myself to smile back, suddenly recalling that a number of residents in this neighbourhood had been robbed and the robber was still at large. Beads of perspiration formed on my forehead, as wild thoughts raced through my mind wildly. My heart began to beat like Michael Jackson's dance steps. Slowly, he reached out for his pocket and looked at me with the smile again. I felt my hair stiffened on the back as i swallowed my saliva. Taking in a deep breath, i waited for the right timing to shout for help.....

Scenario 3

" You must be kidding me." i answered Jane with a nervous smile. After hearing what she told me,i bolted to the classroom and stood rooted to the ground when i saw my new bag with a pen mark. Hot tears begin to well up in my eyes, my blood began boiling with anger. I pursed my lips in disgust and reach for the packet of tissue in my bag. Then, i touched something slimy. Disgusted,i took a reluctant glimpse of it."WHO DID THIS??!! YOU BETTER OWN UP!!" i spitted out the words with contempt. Trying to dispose the egg yolk in my bag, i saw my pencil case torn in shreds in the dustbin! With my face twisted in anguish,i stormed out of the classroom, making my way to the General Office.

Scenario 1

It was a cold and gloomy day. The lighting flashed, and the thunder boomed deafeningly and I lunged from the park to my block's void deck. As I was running, the lift arrived and i got into it.As the lift's door was closing, a man came running to the lift and used his leg to prevent the lift door
from closing. He smiled a sinister smile at me that sent chills down my spine and blocked the exit of the lift.I remembered some of my neighbors were robbed but the thief is still at large. As the lift door closes the man reaches inside his pocket to take out a knife and says,'Give me all your valuables,' My heart races, butterflies appeared in my stomach out of the blue. My hand stretches out to give him the wallet.

Scenario 3

I stood there dumbfounded, looking at my beloved Nike bag which was given to me as a reward for doing well in PSLE. It had a pen mark on it! As i reach into the bag for tissue in attempt to wipe the pen mark off in annoyance, I felt something slimy, to my horror, when I looked inside my bag,
i saw something white and yellow in colour-eggs! All my books were covered with eggs! My lips pursed with suppressed fury and I clenched my fist in fury, knuckles turning white. I was about to storm off to the teacher's table when Mark whispered to me,'Sean!Your pencil case is in the dustbin, shredded.' I rushed to the dustbin and looked inside. Just as what Mark had said, it was shredded.I shouted in stentorian bellows in spite of the teacher,'Who did all this to my things? You better admit or else!'

Scenario 3

I returned to my classroom after recess. As I walked towards my seat, I noticed that my new Nike bag had a pen mark. I ignored it, feeling irritated. Then, as I reached in to my bag to look for tissue paper, I felt something slimy. As I peeked inside my bag, I saw some yellowish things inside. Someone had cracked two eggs in my bag. And now, my books were ruined, too. This was my reward for doing well for PSLE ! Who could have done this? Could I have offended anyone? This actions has enraged me. "Who ever it is who have done this, you owe me an explanation or I will report this matter to the teacher right at this moment!" Everyone stared at me. No one answered. I decided to inform my form teacher. Just as I was about to run off to find my form teacher, Jamie rushed towards me and asked me to look at the dustbin. I found my pencil case inside, cut to shreds. I was furious.

Scenario 1

I waited for the lift impatiently. When the lift door finally opened, I rushed in while a man walked in swiftly into the lift. He smiled at me, a somewhat sinister look in his eyes before turning to block the only exit. As I pressed the number "15" button on the lift, there was suddenly flashbacks in my head that some residents in the neighbourhood had been robbed recently and the culprit was still at large. I felt frightened and was not sure what to do. Could that man be the culprit who had been robbing the residents? If he is, there was no way for me to escape now. As the lift door closed, the man reached inside his pocket and took out something. I was petrified with fear...
Scenario 2:

Every week as Joan and I hiked past the dilapidated house, it still looked the same as it was the week before, but it probably just got a bit dustier. If we took time to slow down or even stop, just to observe the house carefully, we would have noticed something we would never have spotted, which was the cargo inside the house. On our twelfth week for the year, we were taken aback by what we heard: vociferating orders coming from the house. We both signalled to each other to creep nearer to the house, painstakingly and discreetly. "Yes boss, the drugs would be sent to the boats by midnight." someone responded. "Excellent! Remember, you nincompoops, you have to collect the money first before you send anything out! And check if the notes are real or fake, if we have collected fake money... all five of you shall and will earn back the five hundred thousand dollars spent on those drugs!" someone else reprimanded. Then, I saw the cases and boxes of drugs, approximately fifty of them, all piled up in one corner of the house. As we both gawked in disbelief at the amount, someone had caught sight of us.

Scenario 3:
I tried to hold back the tears that were trying to force its way out and the lump that had seemed to formed in my throat unexpectedly. Why did they have to do it? First, the bag with the blemish, then the raw eggs cracked into the interior of my bag, now my pencil case, shredded and discovered in the rubbish bin of our class. A few boys were snickering at my misfortune, soon, they had spread the word about my tragedy around the class and everyone had a comment to say to each other. My anger had overtaken all the other emotions, I was feeling enraged. What did I do wrong to deserve this? I had asked myself repeatedly. This was overboard, I could just feel my face hardening, and I felt like rasping with grave deliberation at those boys. Just then, Mr. Morris entered the classroom and the whole atmosphere of the classroom changed with a snap, everyone became serious, the few boys who first started snickering started chewing on their lips, their faces grew pale and their palms grew clammy, afraid that I would tell on them, and that was what I did: Leave it to the one with the greater power to handle this catastrophe.

Scenario 2 (Fear/anger)

The morning was a cool grey, and there was a delicious sense of peace in the silence of the woods. Not a leaf stirred; not a sound obtruded upon great Nature's meditation. As my best friend, Mary, and i went hiking along our same routine. We had always went through a dilapidated hut and i had resourced out that the hut had been deserted for over ten years. However, this day seems to be one of the weirdest day so far in my life as the what seemed deserted house had suddenly sprang back to life. There were cries coming from inside it.I was frightened by the cries that were made by the hut. I wondered.'Who or what could be inside the hut even though i had went through the hut many times but i had never heard any cries coming from it except today'. Curious, Mary and i decided to find out for ourselves. What we did not know was that there was something that awaits us to find out, something bad. For that, how i wished that i had never let my curiosity take over me...

Scenario 3 (anger)

Mary glared at her brother in fury, almost ready to explode .“ you’ll pay for all this !” Then she stormed out of the shop in rage. Every time they went out , Mary would blew her top at John . When Mary got home, she went in by the back door. Her puppy tried to snuggle with her. She kicked it viciously and shouted “stupid puppy.” After a few minutes, the front door’s bell rang. She flung the door open with fury and saw John standing outside looking very scared. “I am so sorry...”muttered her brother. She crossed her arms and glared at him with angry eyes. “I’m going to tell dad about what happened today” Mary fumed. “Please don’t tell dad...”John pleaded.

I waited impatiently for the lift to come, as i have longed to go home and rest, for that i have worked all day long. As the lift slowly made its way to the first floor, i glimpse that someone had been watching me. But i thought that i was just imagining things. The lift came and i went in before i found out that i was not imagining things! There was really someone behind me, someone that i would not want to get in trouble with. He went into the lift and blocked the only exit-the door! As the lift doors slowly closed behind the man, terror seized me as i had a feeling that this was not going to be good. I thought 'newspapers have being saying that some residents around this block of flats have been robbed and that the police are on the search to find the uncaught culprit'. I have found out who the culprit was! But terror still gripped on me, as i thought again. 'How was i to be a challenge for such a strong man. His well-built body, slender waist and broad shoulders were proof of his strength. As the lift went up, the muscular man took something out of his pocket. I stepped backwards and lean on one of the four sided walls inside the lift, before the man started his attempt on robbing me.

Scenario 1 (Fear) and Scenario 3 (Anger)

(Scenario 1)
Dark clouds filled the sky, looming ahead like a heavy curtain. I rushed for the nearest shelter possible. Ruffling my hair, I pressed the lift button. I took a few slurps of my milkshake while waiting impatiently for the lift. After what seemed like forever, the lift door opened. Upon entering the lift, a man in his late 30s rushed into it. God, it was just like a sudden suspense. Out of the blue, I recalled having heard of some instances whereby the residents in the neighbourhood were robbed recently and the culprit was still on-the-run. The small hairs on the back of my neck's stirred. I scanned him head to toe, and to my astonishment, he matched exactly what was described by the victims of the culprit. Corded arm muscles, toned body, buck tooth... IT WAS PRECISELY WHAT WAS DESCRIBED. I studied him again, ensuring not to enable him to catch me while doing so. In the midst of my inspection, I noticed a bright silver blade glazing at the back of his pocket. A knife, it was. I shifted my gaze to his face, and he gave me a sinister look. He pulled out his knife...

(Scenario 2)
My face flushed with indignation as I gazed at my brand new Nike bag. Unexpectedly, all the efforts I succumbed into saving up for the bag did not paid off. I clenched my fist and gritted my teeth as I stood up, yelling at the top of my voice,"WHO THE HELL DIRTIED MY NIKE BAG?" And then the class was so silent that I could hear a pin drop. They stared at me as I panted hastily. No one replied. Awkward silence. I went back to my seat, and as I reached for the inner pockets of my bag, I felt slimy, wicked stuff perched onto my fingers. Realizing that it was 2 cracked eggs, I could not be bothered anymore but just to complain to my form teacher. At that point of time, I did not even care whether I was called a coward. I scurried for my teacher, thinking whether there was a possibility of another burden. Along came Valerie, huffing and puffing, trying to inform me in between pants that she found my pencil case in the dustbin, cut into shreds. I WAS RIGHT. It was, by date, the WORST day of my entire life. I carried on hurrying for my teacher, as my lips pursed with suppressed fury.

Senario 2(Fear)

Hiking with my friend,i came across this dilapridated hut again.I past it this hut many times,it was usually very peaceful and quiet as it had been abondoned for a long time. But there seems to be some activities going on inside.I felt terrified.Who could have been inside doing something? All the past years i walk by,there was no sound but now intermittent cries can be heard.

Senario 3(anger)

Furious,I saw my new Nike bag that was rewarded to me for PSLE with a pen mark on it.Who did it?My hands slip into my bag to look for tissue paper to wipe it off,i felt something slimly.Looking into my bag,my face became fury red.Someone had cracked two eggs in my bag causing it to be dirty and causing my books to be ruined.I wanted to report about this to the teacher when my friend stopped me.She pulled me to the dustbin. My pencil case,it was cut to shred!I gritted my teeth with anger.
Scenario 1 (fear)

I hate staying at home all alone, especially at night, like now. It was raining heavily and I was hiding under my blanket. I left the lights on, as I was afraid of dark. Drums of thunders followed after the streaks of lightning. I wringed my hands and chewed my lips, hoping that it could stop. Unfortunately, the storm grew heavier and heavier. My stomach shrivelled and my palms grew clammy. How I wish my parents were staying all by my side now, comforting me! Just then, lightning streaked past, and darkness filled the room…

Scenario 3 (angry)

My face hardened when I saw the remaining shreds of my pencil box. I picked them up and stomped into the classroom. “Who did this? You’d better own up!” I bellowed ferociously. If looks could kill, maybe half of the girls in class had fainted. Just then, one of the boy walked towards me…
SCENARIO 1 .

I stood outside the lift impatiently , pressing the buttons continuously and waiting for the lift doors to open . The doors of the lift finally opened and i stepped inside . Just as the doors were about to close , a man clad in black rushed in . I smiled uneasily at him , and he returned my smile , sinisterly . On a closer inspectation , the man had a scar on his face , above his eyebrows . His coarse hands were tattooed heavily . The doors of the lift closed and the lift began to move . Then , the man walked towards me . I suddenly thought of something . Some residents at this neighbourhood had been robbed , and the culprit is still at large . I backed away from the man , cold sweat breaking out . Suddenly , the man reached into his pocket . At that time , i began to feel something that i had never felt before , fear . It spread coldly , uneasily and slowly , like an ice cube sliding behind your back , but far worse . It spreads through you , making you anxiously wonder what will happen . The man was pulling something out of the pocket , and i had to react fast ...

SCENARIO 2 .

Hiking with my friend Sally by my side , we trudged along the rocky road . I smelled the fresh air , enjoying the nature . Pumped with adrenaline , we walked towards a dilapitated hut that we had passed many times . Just as we were getting closer , i heard some noises inside the hut . Overwhelmed by curiousity , i walked stealthily towards the hut . I could hear a faint cry for help . I looked at Sally in shock , amazement and confusion . My feelings were mixed up . "Why would somebody be in this hut crying for help ? We hiked along this road for so many times but it was always empty . " I said , to which Sally replied , " Or , is it ? You can't be too sure that nobody was inside ... " I looked at her and back at the hut . Curious to find out what is inside , i opened the door slowly . It open with a squeak . I wandered in cautiously , stepping gingerly on the floor filled with hays . I turned to look at Sally and was going to beckon her in , but she was gone . I looked around wildly , heart pounding with terror . Suddenly , the door slammed shut , and i could not get out ...

After regaining consciousness. I whipped out my phone to call the Civil Defence number, but unfortunately my phone battery was flat. I knew i had to act fast so i mustered whatever strength i had left and sprinted to the nearest public phone. With trembling fingers, i told the operator briefly what had happened and the location. After that i ran back to the scene. By the time i got there, a large crowd had gathered. The curious bystanders merely stood there, talking among themselves. Just as i wondered if Sally would emerge from this harrowing experience none the worst, loud wailing of sirens interrupted my thoughts. The ambulance and police cars roared to a halt.

Scenario 1 (Fear)

It was a dark and gloomy night. Black clouds hung low over the city. All at once, the heavens opened and a blinding rainstorm began. The thunderous night sky was lit with streaks of lighting. I quickly fished out my umbrella from my bag. The rain pelted heavily against my umbrella as I walked slowly to the shelter of my block. I quickly dashed to the lift lobby and pressed the lift button. As the lift came into view, I entered the lift and pressed the floor’s number button which could lead me to my house. As the lift doors were about to close, a tall and burgly man dashed in. The man turned around and smiled at me, which sent a chill down my spine. He had a ugly and long scar on his brow and a skull-shaped tattoo on his right hand. His murderous eyes were as red as coals. As I looked into his eyes, my heart could not help palpitating and I was totally flustered. My legs turned jelly and I broke out in a cold sweat. “What am I going to do?” I thought. The man was blocking my way to freedom. As the man put his hand into his pockets,I suddenly thought of the numberous people who have been robbed in the lifts... “Could I be the next one being robbed in the lift?”I thought, feeling more and more petrified. My heart could not stop beating like the beating on African drums...

Scenario Writing

In your English lessons, you have learnt how to create interesting characters using the technique "Show vs Tell". You have also learnt that words may have the same theme, for example: piqued, irritated, irate, livid, etc., but they have different grades of meaning.

Using what you have learnt about writing thus far, choose two out of three of the following scenarios and write one paragraph each. In your writing, you must SHOW the emotions stated in the brackets.

Scenario 1 (Fear)
It was late at night and you were entering the lift. A man walked in swiftly after you. He smiled at you, a somewhat sinister look in his eyes before turning to block the only exit. You remembered that some residents in the neighbourhood had been robbed recently and the culprit was still at large. As the lift door closed, the man reached inside his pockets…

Scenario 2 (Fear/Anger)
You were hiking with your best friend when you came across a dilapidated hut. You had passed by this hut many times and it had been abandoned for years. However, today, there seemed to be activity inside and you could hear intermittent cries coming from inside the hut.

Scenario 3 (Anger)
You returned from recess and found that your new Nike bag had a pen mark. You were given this bag as a reward for doing well for PSLE. As you reached into your bag to look for tissue paper, your hands felt something slimy. Someone had cracked two eggs in your bag and your books were ruined. Just as you were about to run off to find your form teacher, your best friend informed you that your pencil case had been found in the dustbin, cut to shreds.
